Acquisition

Developing Your Media Resources

The content development process organizes and protects your media assets, researches strategically valuable content from outside your organization and produces new content as required.

Organizing your Media Resources

The first step is to locate, organize and protect your media assets, focusing on those that are strategic to your enterprise. This includes planning conservation of the existing assets and a process to cull from your resources photographs and artwork that should be digitized to enable improved accessibility and utilization.

Research and Acquisition

In addition to the content you own, we research and obtain use of images based on your strategic media plan. This work includes developing related caption information and stories. We also handle the rights management governing the use of this content. Sources for this may include photographers, designers, repositories and archives, public sources and stock media companies.

Scanning Service

We use a state-of-the art image scanner to create museum/legacy grade scans from photographs, slides, negatives, artwork, graphics and limited dimensional artifacts. The Fuji Lanovia C-550's capabilities provide the best feature set for scanning archival content and converting enterprise media assets to digital form. This device is ideal for developing digital asset repositories. "Using the Lanovia, we achieve what we call true "Legacy" level capture for visual assets", says Bennett Hall, founder and President of BIG. "This technology", says Hall, "dovetails with our strategy of helping enterprise clients capitalize on media assets strategic to their organizations in unlimited cross-media applications — facilities, print, web, and broadcast. A 'scan-once, output-unlimited' solution is enabled by the quality of the Lanovia."

Device features: up to 5000 dpi resolution at sizes to 14 x 18"
Dynamic range of 3.9

Digital Image Restoration - historical images

Digital image processing restores and enhances images to prepare them for specific project applications. Faded historical pictures are brought back to life through a restoration project defined by established rules and methods, depending on your organizations requirements. This process normally removes scratches, cracks and image defects, and restores the contrast as appropriate to create a high-quality output in keeping with the intention of the original photographer as best as possible. Many images that heretofore were not suitable or possible to be enlarged, can now be produced for publication or exhibition. The technology of modern scanning and restoration process can bring virtually any image back to a reasonable state for modern use.

Metadata development - information capture
As pictures tell stories, it is essential to record available information during the process of acquiring new content and digitalization of your existing assets. This is done at the time of the scanning and recorded initially into the raw file created. Later, this information is transferred into the database that manages the images, the Digital Asset Management system (DAM), and expanded upon as the images are reviewed and further development for specific applications. This is especially important in dealing with historical materials where access to experts may be limited.

Digital Collages

Combing photographic images and artwork into collages is a speciality of our digital services. We have been producing composites since 1980, initially using traditional methods. This work entails forming togetgher multiple images towards specific creative or strategic goals. Examples include putting together the portfolio ofa developers properties into one image, or dropping a client's product into a far away location impossible to otherwise photograph.
